Trump Admin Sending 200 Marines to Florida to Support ICE
The U.S. military announced Thursday that 200 Marines will be deployed to Florida to assist Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) with administrative and logistical tasks—not law enforcement. This marks the first phase of U.S. Northern Command’s support for ICE operations.
Previously, 700 Marines were sent to Los Angeles in June to help amid protests over ICE deportation raids. While federal officials emphasized that troops won’t interact with detainees, critics, including California Governor Gavin Newsom and L.A. Mayor Karen Bass, expressed concern about potential escalation.
The deployment is part of a broader Pentagon authorization allowing up to 700 Defense Department personnel to assist ICE across Florida, Louisiana, and Texas.
Meanwhile, the U.S. job market continues to show strength. In June, the economy added 147,000 jobs, beating forecasts, with unemployment dropping to 4.1%. Trump praised the numbers on Truth Social, while Job Creators Network CEO Alfredo Ortiz credited his administration’s policies for the growth.
