DOJ Probe Into Biden’s Handling of Classified Docs Ends With No Charge
The U.S. Department of Justice will not bring charges against President Joe Biden following an investigation into his handling of classified documents discovered at his home and former office. However, a forthcoming report is expected to criticize aspects of his conduct.
Special Counsel Robert Hur, appointed by Attorney General Merrick Garland, has concluded the probe, and the findings may be released later this week. The decision lifts a significant burden from Biden’s 2024 reelection campaign.
In contrast, former President Donald Trump faces multiple federal charges related to classified documents found at his Mar-a-Lago estate. Unlike Biden, Trump is accused of obstructing government efforts to retrieve the materials, while Biden’s legal team is noted to have cooperated fully with investigators.
Despite the absence of criminal charges, concerns persist that Hur’s report may include potentially embarrassing details, including photos of how the documents were stored. Critics argue that Biden’s team mishandled public disclosures, which may have made the situation appear more damaging than it was.
Meanwhile, in Trump’s case, Judge Aileen Cannon has denied a motion to compel the disclosure of his legal defense strategy, a move that could delay his trial until after the 2024 election.
