Newsom Tears Up, Blames Trump for L.A. Riots Over ICE Ops
California Governor Gavin Newsom became visibly emotional while blaming former President Donald Trump for unrest in Los Angeles, sparked by planned ICE operations. The Department of Homeland Security is deploying tactical units to five Democratic cities—L.A., NYC, Seattle, Chicago, and northern Virginia—amid mass protests.
Newsom accused Trump of escalating tensions by ordering National Guard troops to defend federal property, warning in a national address that “democracy is under assault” and California “won’t be the last” to face such actions. A federal appeals court temporarily blocked a ruling that would return control of California’s National Guard to Newsom.
Meanwhile, Trump, speaking at Fort Bragg, defended the troop deployment and described L.A. as “a trash heap” overrun by “foreign enemies,” vowing to “liberate” the city and restore order.
Newsom countered, calling Trump’s actions authoritarian and accusing him of undermining U.S. institutions, warning that the crackdown could soon spread nationwide.
