Spar Shop on Foundry Lane to Close This Month

A popular convenience store near Shirley High Street is set to close its doors permanently later this month.
The Spar shop on Foundry Lane will cease trading on Wednesday, June 25, according to a notice displayed in the shop window.
The store, known for offering services such as PayPoint, Collect+, and Evri courier drop-offs, has been a regular stop for locals—particularly those selling items online.
Located just a seven-minute walk from Millbrook train station, the shop has served the community for several years.
A green and white sign posted in the window reads:
“We regret to inform you that your Spar store at Foundry Lane will cease trading on Wednesday 25th June.
We thank you for your custom and apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
The closure follows a recent incident involving police. In April, Hampshire Constabulary issued a public appeal to identify a man who was reportedly “verbally abusive” to staff at the shop.
The altercation occurred shortly before 2.30pm on March 9, when a man allegedly took two drinks without paying. When challenged by staff, he became aggressive, prompting a police investigation.
