NFL Hall of Famer Terry Bradshaw is being as a hero after helping a group of passengers who were stuck on a flight from Texas to Pittsburgh.
Bradshaw, 76, was the quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers for over a decade, leading the team to four Super Bowl victories. Now a well-known member of the Fox Sports broadcast team, Bradshaw stepped in on Thursday when the door of the plane wouldn’t open.
According to KDKA, the door was jammed for nearly 30 minutes after the plane landed at Pittsburgh International Airport. Bradshaw, who was seated in the front row, eventually managed to force the door open.
Selah Gamble, a passenger on the flight, told KDKA that the pilot gave Bradshaw a special mention. “You could kind of hear he was chuckling as he said it,” Gamble recalled. “He said, ‘Thanks to the strength of one of our passengers, we were finally able to get the door open,’ and I think we all knew he was referring to Mr. Bradshaw.”
The passengers were stuck on the plane for almost half an hour after arriving at Pittsburgh International Airport. One passenger admitted to eating their words after joking that Bradshaw was too old to help. “The guy next to me had joked that maybe Bradshaw could bust down the door, and I said, ‘Well, maybe he could’ve a few years ago,’ so I’m definitely eating my words now,” they said.
Bradshaw was on the flight heading to Pittsburgh for Mel Blount’s celebrity roast, which also commemorated the Steelers’ first Super Bowl victory. The former quarterback is serving as the Master of Ceremonies for the event.
Bradshaw recently announced that he plans to retire in 2029, acknowledging that the game is now dominated by younger athletes. “It’s a young man’s game. I get that,” he said.
