Newborn Dies After Falling from Crib Due to Nurse’s Error with Monitor Cords

A tragic incident at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Ohio has left a young couple grieving the loss of their newborn daughter, Ellieana Peyton, who was just 29 days old.

Born with a rare heart condition known as cardiomyopathy, Ellieana had been receiving specialized care in the hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). On March 31, while her parents had briefly left to shower, they received devastating news: their baby had suffered fatal injuries after a nurse accidentally caused her to fall from her crib.

According to hospital sources, the nurse had unintentionally left the baby’s monitor cords in her pocket. When she walked away, the cords reportedly became entangled, pulling Ellieana from the crib and resulting in a severe fall. Ellieana sustained a fractured skull and multiple brain bleeds and later died from her injuries.

Her grieving family described Ellieana as a radiant child with a contagious smile and beautiful eyes. Though heartbroken, they have expressed gratitude for the outpouring of community support as they navigate this unimaginable loss.

“Her memory and the love she brought into our lives in such a short time will never be forgotten,” the family said in a statement.

The hospital has not yet released details about internal reviews or disciplinary actions related to the incident. The case remains under investigation.
